The September Issue
Vogue's September issue is considered to be the end all and be all of the fashion industry, meaning this is the place a new designer breaks into the industry and millions of American women and men alike get the ideas for their fall wardrobes. The September Issue looks into the creation of the 2007 September issue and the meticulous perfectionism of the editor of Vogue magazine, Anna Wintour. Wintour, who was notoriously portrayed as a demanding ice queen in The Devil Wears Prada book and film. The film gives us an interesting overview of how Vogue's mega issue is constructed and restructured to Wintour's liking, much to the dismay of her long time collaborator at Vogue Grace Coddington. However, while Prada broke Anna Wintour down into a soulless entrepreneur, this documentary more or less demonstrates how Wintour's attitude and cool demeanor are what allow her to keep the quality of Vogue above all other magazines in America. In fact, there were several times in the film Wintour did self-disclose about herself and how her siblings consider her job "amusing" and perhaps some disappointment that her daughter Bee wants to be a lawyer instead of working in fashion. Overall, the film was pretty entertaining (especially the discussion about Sienna Miller's hair) look into an industry many people view as superficial when it really is anything but.
