Racing...or not

Last weekend marked the first round of the Sunshine Series, held at Mount crosby.

Aido has been away at www.tourdecure.com.au as a monkey wrench and rider, and hence my diet for the past two weeks has comprised of homemade toasted muesli and copious amounts of red wine.

Which is great—I get to be little drunk every evening, I don't have to cook, and I figure that homemade fruity, nutty, yoghurty and soy-milky muesli is a perfectly balanced nightly affair.

But, in conjunction with work, uni, doing some business running around for RLC Sport and relishing the 4.30am starts (surprisingly not too hard when the bed is cold...) I managed to get sick.

Yeuch. The extreme sleep deprivation probably didn't help, and the several 8 degree nights. Which is VERY cold when you live in the housing equivalent of a wooden tent.

So...after 9 days of aforementioned diet and activity, I had turned into a mucous-producing machine. It was a cough-sneeze alternation and very nasty business at that. When you add in shivers, sore throat and tap-like nose you begin to get the picture...

Unfortunately for me, it came on two nights before the Sunny Series! Yikes!

I schlepped out to Mt Crosby with Matty and Donna, and proceeded to do a practice lap, which my lungs did not tolerate. The mucous was extreme. It was then I decided to call it quits while I'm ahead...because I figured it's better to miss one round than the proceeding three? No?

Perhaps I am just soft...but I think this may be the first time when I have made a sensible, health-promoting decision. And I am already feeling a lot better for it. Another day or two and the mucous will have fully packed up shop and left!

Yuk!
