...and i'm back in the game!

A week off can do wonders, it's true!

I just about thought I was getting used to just going for a joggle of a morn and then going about my merry way for the rest of the day. It's true that life is a fair bit easier when you're not trying to cram 15hours of bike time in between 20-hours of work time and 20 contact hours at uni, not to mention the 20 or so hours of study I need to do at uni and at home in addition to this!

Anyway, I was half thinking that I wouldn't ever want to get back on my bike; that I would try it and think 'bugger it! Life sans existence as an athlete is way easier!'. Skinfolds are far easier to increase than to decrease, as well. But not wanting to get back on the bike didn't happen.

I had a hoot of a ride on my day back--out to Samford to race the QLD Interschools XC and then back home. It's a sweet course, very fire-roady, and with 100m of elevation in a 2.5km course...very much a climb-y climb-y course. Raced B-grade men with low expectations after my joggling adventures of the previous week, and ended up winning B-grade men (sure...it was a field of two, but there was noone in front!) and was sitting in fourth in A-grade when I finished my race.

Burning lungs was an understatement.

Good fun! And it was awesome to see some many whippersnappers out there. It was great to go and help out with the kids, hopefully we can see more and more kids get into the sport. The next Aido Lefmann's in the making? I hope so!

Aido actually got asked by one of the under 15's if he knew Aiden Lefmann. Pretty funny, but fame is a fickle thing!! Pretty awesome however, as this kid had legs the size of matchsticks, and was a real gun. We have some good talent moving up with the young'uns here in Queensland.

One of my juniors, Dean, also smashed apart the under 17 field with a firecracker fast first lap, followed by some consistent times. Good times ahead for this kid, too!

Dean the machine, on his way to U17 glory.
Anyway, good times good times. I can honestly say that the day after a week of an only running my legs actually felt BETTER than at nationals, which is kind of annoying! Oh well, there's more races to be had. I think i'll try myself at the marathon format with Marathon Nationals, as it's right in our backyard (how can you not?), and then off to the Big Red for a week of eating your body weight in carbs and smashing yourself at XC-length races every day! Fun times.
