You know when you pull the sheet up a bit higher when you try to ignore your alarm in the morning, when you kit up but somehow find yourself slipping back into bed, when you don't really want to look at your bike, your legs are baked and you're riding like you were three years ago, when the fatigue and stoic determination to finish a ride takes over from the fun you otherwise may have been having...that it's time for a break!
That's where I am now, somewhat in purgatory. I have had a few days off, so I don't hate my bikes as much as I did a couple of weeks ago, but I am acutely aware that I am still not back in love with them. I need some more time!
After a terrible run of bad health leading into the champs, I seem to be finally on the healthy path again, which is a huge positive!
Running definitely helps sort out your priorities, while the endorphins and adrenalin while running seems to express themselves a lot quicker than on the bike, the brutality of running leaves it's mark harder and longer every year I decide to have a break and rediscover my running roots. Generally, the more I run, the more I appreciate riding my bike as a recreational activity and competitive sport.
I have heaps of events coming up, Marathon Nationals, Central Australia Stage Race, some more team endurance events and maybe even Mt Perry. I decided to pull the pin on Oceanias before I get there--I know it's not going to be the ride of my life and would rather study and just have some'riding for fun' time.
Anyway, here's to loving the bike!
