Things I Love: Free People Edition

For most people, there are a few labels and stores that make your heart flutter. They always make stuff you love, that you lust after, and maybe just maybe get a hold of some way. This is my relationship with labels like Stella McCartney and Chloe. It takes a lot of saving and searching to get a hold of their pieces, I can't just order whatever I please off of Net-A-Porter. Then their are diffusion labels like Marc by Marc Jacobs, which are little more attainable with the help of sales and my Bloomingdale's credit card. In this price range I discovered Free People when I was probably fifteen or sixteen years old. It was a God send. Finally I had access to something beyond the requisite early 00s style of Abercrombie polos paired with denim mini skirts that was so overdone. Instead, I had something influenced by higher-end designers and definitely something with a lot more personality than what was being offered to me at other stores. I'm still a big fan and always end up buying something from them once a season. All my pieces, even my first Free People purchases, are still in amazing shape. Here are some of my favorites from their website:

Studded Striped Blazer - $138
I love the details on this blazer, the buttons are too cute and the soft navy on the ivory wool makes this blazer stand out from the sea of black and charcoal this season.

Metallic Charmer Dress - $148
The details on this dress are glitzy enough to be eye-catching but not overwhelmingly tacky or cheap looking. This piece could also be easily dressed up or down with the right heels or with a pair of leggings underneath. The placement of the detailing also draws the eye inward, giving the wearer a longer and leaner silhouette.

Long and Lean Zipper Top -$98
A gorgeous pattern and a unique take on the basic T-shirt. Definitely a lot more interesting and fun than just a solid color, it also makes it easier to accessorize with.

Lace Stencil Skinny Jeans - $98
Lots and lots of different types of details are being applied to denim this season. I like these because they're deconstructed but still maintain feminine flair. The pattern also isn't too busy or on a scale to make the wearer appear larger.

Corset Heels - $198
I've been obsessed with this style since Jane from Sea of Shoes got her Ann Demeulemeester lace up sandals. The peep toe and the laces are a too perfect juxtaposition between masculine and feminine. They're an edgier take on a familiar shape and style of boot, but it's all too clear that these are just an interpretation of the Ann D's at a fraction (approximately one fifth!) of the price. Still, I'm pleased to find a good quality version within my price range!
