Award season is in full effect, which means getting to see lots of beautiful (and sometimes not so beautiful!) red carpet looks. Personally I found the styling at the Golden Globes this year to be a little underwhelming. I hope that this is just because these actresses are saving up their best dresses for the Oscars. There were a lot of neutral colored dresses last night, but the three above are my favorites. Dianna Argon's hair and make-up compliment her gown beautifully and the color scheme doesn't wash her out. Anne Hathaway's dress had a lot of visual interest with the paillettes, but the puffy shoulder made the dress a bit too 80s for me. I still like it though because I can't resist anything Rachel Zoe styles it seems! Hailee Steinfeld who is only 14 also looked stunning her dress, whoever styled her deserves an award for allowing her to look "grown up" and still very sweet.
[Angelina Jolie, Olivia Wilde, & Claire Danes]
I wish Angelina Jolie would wear gowns with color more often, this jade green is absolutely perfect for her coloring. While the cut of the dress reminded me of Dynasty, I hope to see her in more jewel tones in future looks. Olivia Wilde's dress was also one I really liked. The ball gown skirt did make the dress seem prom-esque, but the detailing was beautiful on screen and made the dress a lot more special. I thought this was a great way to have a neutral toned look without going the beige-and-sparkle route that many other actresses did last night. Claire Dane's honeysuckle dress (the Pantone color of the year) was also a pleasant surprise. Not many actresses have been wearing pink lately and I think it was a flattering choice for her.
[Emma Stone, Kyra Sedgwick, & Mila Kunis]
These final three dresses were my favorite. Emma Stone looked stunning in peach, but I do think the red carpet made it look more orange than it actually was. The ensemble looked much different once she was inside the Globes. This was a great first red carpet look for her and she successfully pulled off the minimalist dress. Kyra Sedgwick's gown is my favorite of the night and it makes me a bit disappointed more people didn't seem to notice it! The color of the dress is unique without being an overt statement and her styling is excellent. It does somewhat remind me of Michelle Williams' Oscars 2006 dress, but I overall think Kyra's look was very refined. My final favorite was Mila Kunis' green gown. Like Emma Stone, this is her one of her first appearances on a major red carpet and she made a great showing. The rouching makes the dress structurally interesting and more feminine, but not so sweet that it makes her look juvenile. Certainly a great choice for a red carpet debut. What were your favorite (or least favorite!) looks from last night?
