Crit racing and picnics

Yesterday, I had decided that I was going to race a crit. Aiden was coming with me, and then he got sidelined to help out Simon's Muppets instead.

So, having never been over to Murrarie, or even ridden over the bridge, I decided that it "can't be that hard to find" and decided to schlepp out there, 5.30am—ALL BY MYSELF.

That combined with the fact that I have never raced road in Brissie, I guess it was a little daunting. I caught up to a creeper'; bunch over the southside somewhere (I have no idea where I am once I cross that bridge!) and I rode with them until we reached the course, which was a good thing, because I have reservations about bunches that call "bumpy road" if there's a smooth patch in the road. Roadies are indeed strange.

Anyway, I got there too early, rolled around a bit and waited to sign on.

It's chick's racing—how hard can it be?

The small bunch was aggressive, attacking so it whittled down to six...then four, and then two girls came around my side when I was on the front—sneaky. Wasn't really sure what was happening, but knew I had missed that one. D'Oh! Especially when I had made every other break, and reigned in other wayward attacks too.

I was a dangling, seeing another girl dangling as a result of the attack maybe 100–200m ahead, I think "hey...if I just do a bit of TT action I can catch her no worries". So I did, and I did.

And we rode around for a couple of laps. A bit shot at that time, there was no getting away from eachother at that stage. So before the final corner, I launched a bit of an attack, which ended up being more like a leadout, so I slowed again to save my legs a bit, then launched a sprint, from the front, taking the win my maybe half a wheel.

And riding on top of the hoods (D'Oh!).

Well, the commissaire did put me in B-grade. Maybe A-grade next time huh?

Followed by some more k's (albeit veeery slowly by that stage), then toast and coffee I was a pretty happy kiddo.

A good day when finished with some more k's. Followed by toast and mmm...coffee!

Then, Aido and I decided to go to Mt Glorious to chill out in the sun with our dog. So we did. We read the paper, ate strawberries and tried to pull Mondo out of the bushes when she got stuck in the scrub (several times).

Even if Aido had the worst coffee ever at Mt Glorious cafe. Yeuch. You would have to pay me to drink that stuff. Cold hard cash.

It was nice, because usually Mt Glorious looks like this to us:

And instead, we got to see it like this:

Awesome!
